Corpus Christi by Fabrice Fouillet

20 March 2012 - 06:40 PM

Fabrice Fouillet is a photographer based out of Paris. This particular series is titled “Corpus Christi”, which as a non devout American, the initial assumption may be of the small town on the coast of the great state of Texas. However in Latin and to the Roman Catholics it literally translates to “The Body of Christ”. In this series Fouillet wanted to highlight the majestic architecture of contemporary designed cathedrals built in the 50s and 60s. At this juncture in architecture the minimalistic aesthetic of Frank Lloyd Wright and contemporaries of the time were dominating the stylings of modern architecture. However injecting this stylization into holiest form of design- one that was to honor god- was not accepted entirely with open arms by the clergy. Fouillet visits 14 cathedrals throughout Europe and the world that embraced this art form and captures their beauty in these captivating photos.
